FAQ

Relics

  • Overview
Relics affect different attributes of your Units and Castle. Fight, claim, capture, and control Shrines to acquire new Relics. Build a Temple of War to store and use the Relics you find. Construct the Eagle's Nest and House of Lords to locate and capture different Shrines throughout the Map.

You can sell Relics you don't want to use for Resources. In order to do so, go to the Temple of War, select a Relic you would like to sell, and click the "Sell" button. Note that you cannot sell a temporary Relic that has been activated.
  • Effects
Relics can have several different kinds of attributes. Some offer Offensive bonuses, while others improve the Defensive attributes of various Units. Other Relics mainly improve the production performance characteristics for your entire Castle (Resource production, Defense bonuses, etc.)

To use a Relic, place it into any open Activation slot on the Altar at your Temple of War. You have 6 Activation Slots in total, and can use no more than two Relics of the same category simultaneously. For example: 2 Offensive Relics, 2 Defensive, 2 Production.
  • Duration
Relics can be either Permanent or Temporary. Build a Temple of War to use either type. You can disengage and drag activated Permanent Relics back to the Reliquary at any time for later use, but Temporary Relics are consumable items and are active for a fixed period of time – once activated, they can't be moved back to the Reliquary. If you exchange one Activated Temporary Relic for a new one, the old one will automatically be deleted.
  • Stability
Relics are categorized as either as either Sacred or Infernal based on their relative strength and stability. Sacred Relics possess small, but stable powers. Infernal Relics have both strong positive and negative effects.
  • Power
The strength of a Relic's attributes is measured in proportion to its rarity (Common, Noble, Royal, Imperial, and Divine). The harder it is to find, the stronger its effect.
  • Relics claimed in Battles
Fighting with other Castles or Settlements is one way to acquire new Relics. Your Grand Marshal will brief you on any Relics you have recovered following each Battle. If there is a blue highlighted exclamation point next to the report instead of the normal red one, it means you have claimed a new Relic!

Open the report and read the description of your prize in the top window. You have a chance to claim a new Relic regardless of the outcome of an engagement. Remember: In order to keep your new Relic you must go to your Temple of War and either use it immediately or move it to your Reliquary, or it will disappear in 48 hours. You can go there directly from your Grand Marshal's report.
  • Relics recovered from Shrines
Ring of Summoning, Crematorium, Fallen Cathedral, Sorcerer's Keep are where the Relics are concealed. They essentially function like a normal Settlement. Conquer one of them and control it for at least 1 hour to begin trying to salvage Relics. After the first hour, you can begin your search for the Relics by clicking the "Search" button.

The longer you occupy a Relic Settlement, the higher your chances of successfully recovering a Relic for each attempt. You are allowed one detecting attempt per hour. Once you've successfully recovered a Relic, you will receive a report from your Lord Steward. Remember: In order to keep your new Relic you must go to your Sanctuary and either use it immediately, or move in to your Reliquary or it will disappear in 48 hours - you can go there directly from the Lord Steward's report.
  • Shrines
There are 4 types of Shrines where Relics are hidden: Sorcerer's Keeps, Rings of Summoning, Fallen Cathedrals, and Crematoriums. Think of them as Settlements that produce Relics. The type of Shrine determines the kind of Relic you may find there. (Common, Noble, Royal, Imperial or Divine). Keep in mind that each Shrine functions for a fixed period of time just like a regular Settlement.

Go to the Keep, Eagle's Nest or use the Shrine menu on the Map to see the time remaining before the Shrine expires. Every new Shrine that appears on the Map is unguarded until conquered.
  • Shrine Menu
Use a Shrine's menu on the Map to see the time remaining before the Shrine expires, type of Relics it contains, its status (captured or unclaimed) and choose the type of interaction you wish to perform with it.
  • Spying on Shrines
You will need to build the House of Lords and Hall of Shadows in your Castle to begin Spying on Shrines. Select "Dispatch Spies" from the Shrine's menu on the Map, then select the number of Silent Ones you wish to send. If you spy on the Shrine successfully you will see all occupying enemy Units, including any of the Enemy's reinforcements. Once you have captured a Shrine, remember to reinforce it with as many Silent Ones as possible to raise its Intelligence Bonus.
  • Conquering Shrines
You must build the House of Lords before you can capture your first Shrine. Select Capture from the Shrine menu on the Map and assemble a force strong enough to claim it. Once you've captured the Shrine go to your Keep, and open the "Fiefs" tab to view its attributes. Starting immediately from when you Conquer the Shrine, you'll notice a progress bar indicating the amount of time you have maintained control of this Shrine.

You must hold it for at least one hour before you can begin searching for Relics. The longer you hold the Shrine, the higher the probability of successfully recovering a Relic with each attempt. You are only permitted one attempt per hour - and be patient, you may not immediately find the Relic you were searching for.

Every time a Shrine is Conquered, the one hour waiting period and occupation progress bar is reset - but the time remaining until the Shrine disappears remains in effect. Ex: If you were to claim a Shrine 4 days into its 7 day lifetime, you would still have only 3 days remaining in which to search it.

Remember to Send Defensive Units to recently captured Shrines to ensure that it remains under your control. Remember: just like Settlements, you can attack Shrines currently captured by your Allies. This is an extremely effective way of breaking Alliances.
  • Reinforcing Shrines
To reinforce a conquered shrines, select this action from the Shrine Menu, assemble your Reinforcements, and send them to the Shrine you wish to Reinforce. Note that you don't gain access to Relics found at Allied Shrines just because you have Reinforcements garrisoned there.

To review Reinforcements other Lords have sent you, go to your Keep, open the "Fiefs" tab and click the green arrow. You will see the location of all Friendly Reinforcements in the drop down menu. To control the reinforcements you have sent to other Lords, go to the Keep, open the "Garrisons" tab and select the "Shrines" filter.
  • Temple of War
You must build the Temple of War in order to use and store Relics. All Relics you gain are stored in the Sanctuary for 48 hours before being lost forever. To save a Relic, drag it from the Sanctuary to the Reliquary. Invite Friends or use Sapphires to open up extra slots in the Reliquary and increase its storage capacity. To view a Relic's attributes, simply place your cursor over it. To use any Temporary or Permanent Relic, place it into any open gilded Slot and click 'Activate'. Temporary Relics can only be activated once. After activation, they can't be moved back to your Reliquary! You can view information about currently activated Relics from the "Stats Window".

Once you've conquered a Shrine, its progress bar will begin filling up. You can search for Relics only once each hour.  If you click "Search" there is a chance that you may not find the Relic you need, or even any Relic at all. Control your Shrine as long as possible. The longer you maintain control, the higher your chances of finding a Relic on each attempt. You must click the "Search" button to recover Relics.
